Photo-Journal #3: Summer
Institute--July 1999
Determining
our position Here one of our teams uses a GPS
positioning system to determine the latitude and longitude
of the site. They also measured ground-level ozone,
temperature, and cloud cover. It was a hot day, and the
ozone reading was very high....greater than 120 ppb! Good
job Tatiana, Vitaly, Marina, Ilena, Jose and
Marina!!
Who
has an idea? Developing the web-based modules required
a lot of cooperation and collaboration. Here, the "Air
pollution" group solicited ideas from everyone in the team.
Here Andrew and Tatiana discuss some ideas with Alla,
Tatiana, Sara and Don.
Here
is a great site! Researching the environmental topics on
the Internet was a daily activity with each of the four
research teams (each team was comprised of American and
Russian teachers. In the foreground your see one team (Water
Quality) comprised of Deanna Gentry, Marina Goryunova,
Tatiana Gourieva and Jane Yonts. In the background, the
solid waste team is busy at work.
What
do you think? The work of the project was done by the
teams of American and Russian teachers. Here Jack Hassard
asks for their opinions on the topics and direction of the
web-based modules. Four modules were developed: Acid Rain,
Air Pollution, Solid Waste, and Water Pollution.
You've
got mail! Tom Brown and Tatiana Berlina collaborate
on a topic using the resources from the Net. Tom provided
assistance throughout the summer institute on the use of the
Net in the development of Web-based modules.
What
would we do without posters? Many of our ideas started as thoughts
written on large sheets of poster paper. Here we see one of
the first posters of the summer institute. On it are listed
what we thought were very important global environmental
problems that needed to be addressed.
